About Choghadiya
What it is
Choghadiya divides the day and the night into 8 parts each, 16 in all, about 90 minutes long. Each part has a name and a ruling graha.
How it is worked out
Daylight is split into eight equal parts and the night into eight more, so a part is longer on long summer days and shorter in winter. The first part of the day is set by the day of the week.
What people do
People often check it before a journey, a purchase or new work. Rahu Kaal is still avoided even when it falls inside a preferred Choghadiya, so check both.
Times are worked out for Ghatal from its sunrise and sunset. A difference of a minute or two from a printed panchang is normal.
